GET TO KNOW WHAT TYPES OF FOAM FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND ITS FUNCTION

APAR jenis Foam

For those who want to have a fire extinguisher, you need to know the types of these tools. Different types, different functions and what they are used for. One of them is Fire Extinguisher Foam AFFF.

In this article, we will discuss more deeply, the use of APAR FOAM in overcoming fires and other problems, let's listen !

Definition of AFFF Type FOAM extinguishers

Fire Extinguisher Foam AFFF (Aqueous Film Foaming Foam) is a type of fire extinguisher that contains 2 types of media in it, which are a mixture of water and several types of hydrocarbon surfactants, such as: sodium alkyl sulfate and fluoro surfactant (fluorotelomers, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS)).

The result of the combined media will release white foam which is useful for extinguishing fires.

APAR Foam Servvo

The way it works is almost the same as other extinguishers, namely the media that comes out (Foam) will cover the base of oxygen which results in flames, thus the fire will be extinguished quickly.

Class of fire treated by Foam extinguishers

As we know, the function of APAR is to extinguish small-scale fires. But each type of APAR used certainly has different functions and different media.

The types of fire classes that can be handled by APAR Foam are Class A and B type fires. Class A fires are fires that occur in flammable non-metallic solid objects such as wood, paper, cloth and others.

Kebakaran Kelas A

While class B fires are fires that occur in flammable liquid objects such as oil, alcohol or solvent.

Conveniently, the media foam is very effective for fires that cannot be extinguished by water, for example fires caused by oil. Because we know water and oil do not mix.

But of the two classes of fire, Foam media is actually more often used for fire class B, Why? Because the Foam media produced has alcohol resistant properties that are able to break between the fire point and oxygen, so it makes extinguishing the fire faster and more efficient.

Can Foam extinguishers used for class C fires?

Class C fires are fires caused by electrical faults. The foam produced will actually exacerbate combustion because the water content in it becomes a conductor of electricity itself. So, don't use Foam Type for class C !
